Concessive clauses are usually introduced by although or though. ("though" is more formal.)

If we look at the matrix clause and at the concessive clause we see that there is an element of contrast. After what we have heard in one of the clauses, we find the information in the other clause surprising.

Although Seneca was a good wise man he was sentenced to death.
